The Chicago Plan Commission approved a Lake Michigan and Chicago Lakefront Protection Ordinance application submitted by the Chicago Park District for the construction of a 26,781-square-foot dog park in Lincoln Park. The proposed dog-friendly area (DFA) will be located north of the Diversey artificial turf field, south of the natural area, east of the golf driving range, and west of DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The fenced area will feature concrete, artificial turf, pea gravel, mulch, landscaping, fencing, lighting, benches, a drinking fountain, and an open-air shade structure with seating. The project aligns with the 1995 Lincoln Park Framework Plan, which designates this area as a “recreational core.” The estimated total project cost is $1 Million and it is expected to create 10 temporary jobs. The project will also meet Chicago Park District requirements for 25% participation from Qualified Minority Business Enterprises and 5% from Qualified Women Business Enterprises.
