The Chicago City Council approved an ordinance to amend Section 17-7-0590 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, specifically expanding the boundaries of the Block (606) District as defined in Section 17-7-0591. This district encompasses parcels zoned RS3 and RT3.5 within a large geographical area bounded by numerous streets and avenues, including Addison Street, the North Branch of the Chicago River, Western Avenue, Division Street, California Avenue, and many others. The ordinance was introduced on June 18, 2025, and after being referred to the Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards, it was recommended for passage on June 17, 2025. The City Council officially passed the amendment on July 16, 2025, following a motion by Alderperson Burnett.
