The Chicago City Council approved an ordinance to reclassify property located at 7901 S Jeffery Boulevard and 2001-2025 E 79th Street. The previous zoning designation, B3-2 Community Shopping District, was changed to RS-1 Residential Single-Unit (Detached House) District. The reclassification was recommended to pass by the Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards on June 17, 2025, and subsequently passed by the City Council on July 16, 2025, sponsored by Alderperson Michelle A. Harris (08). This change allows for the development of single-family detached homes in an area previously zoned for community shopping.
