The Chicago City Council approved a zoning reclassification for the property located at 1700-1728 E. 79th Street. The ordinance changes the zoning designation of the area, bounded by South East End Avenue, the public alley next north of and parallel to East 79th Street, South Ridgeland Avenue, and East 79th Street, from B3-2 Community Shopping District to RS-1 Residential Single-Unit (Detached House) District. This matter was sponsored by Alderperson Michelle A. Harris (8th Ward) and was referred to the Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards on May 21, 2025. The committee recommended to pass the matter on June 17, 2025, and the City Council subsequently passed it on July 16, 2025.
