The City of Chicago approved the sale of 8 vacant city-owned parcels to Citizens Building a Better Community for $1.00 per lot, totaling $8.00. This project, part of the ChiBlockBuilder Missing Middle Infill Housing Initiative pilot program, aims to construct 8 two-unit residential buildings, totaling 16 dwelling units, in the North Lawndale Community Area. The initiative seeks to address neighborhood disinvestment and repopulate underbuilt areas by facilitating new home construction on vacant, city-owned lots. The city will provide a grant of $2,400,000 for site preparation and construction costs. The total estimated project cost is $5,924,008. The project received waivers from the Open Space Impact Fee Ordinance and the Affordable Requirements Ordinance. Each building is intended to be sold to owner-occupants, with provisions allowing temporary leasing for up to one year if unsold. The parcels are zoned RT-4 and total 26,598 square feet.
