The Chicago Plan Commission is set to consider the adoption of the Armitage Industrial Corridor Framework Plan on May 15, 2025. This plan, developed through extensive collaboration with over 200 business and community representatives and elected officials, aims to guide future growth in the Armitage Industrial Corridor. The corridor, located on Chicago’s northwest side, is generally bounded by Grand Avenue (north), Oak Park Avenue (west), Cortland Street and Bloomingdale Avenue (south), and Cicero Avenue (east), including Planned Manufacturing District (PMD) 15. The plan proposes strategies to support the corridor as a vital job center, enhance infrastructure, preserve its historic industrial identity, and improve communication between businesses and the community. Key strategies include expanding permitted uses within PMD 15 to encourage redevelopment of vacant properties, rezoning the former Mars factory site for mixed-use redevelopment, encouraging market-driven investment at corridor opportunity sites, and coordinating improvements in areas with dissimilar uses. Additionally, the plan prioritizes city improvements to transportation infrastructure, stormwater systems, and safety features, seeks to reduce traffic conflicts, and identifies opportunities for CTA bus enhancements.
