The City Council of Chicago approved an ordinance to create a buffer zone for residential permit parking along North Paulina Street in the 1st Ward. The buffer zone applies to addresses 1451–1461 on the odd side and 1452–1464 on the even side, extending Zone 154’s permit parking area. Pursuant to Section 9-64-090(f) of the Municipal Code, this measure formalizes the buffer without requiring new signage. It ensures contiguous blocks share the same permit restrictions, preventing spillover into adjacent non-permit areas. No physical signs will be installed; enforcement will rely on existing zone markers and permit decals. The ordinance takes effect upon passage and publication, streamlining implementation across the corridor. Alderman Daniel La Spata sponsored the legislation to address parking congestion and maintain residential access. Residents will benefit from consistent permit rules on both sides of the street, reducing commuter parking in the neighborhood. This change supports broader urban planning goals around equitable parking management and residential quality of life.
