The Charlotte City Council deferred consideration of a $6,000,000 Housing Trust Fund allocation for the Havenridge at Sharon Amity affordable rental community in Council District 5. The proposed funding was contingent on the project securing a four percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credit award from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency. City staff issued a request for proposals in November 2024 and received 15 gap financing requests, with two subsequently withdrawn, including the Havenridge proposal. The evaluation assessed developer experience, long‐term affordability, mixed‐income integration, design quality, and financial viability. The project aims to deliver 120 new affordable apartments under a four percent tax credit structure. Council deferred the request to allow for additional community engagement before proceeding with contract negotiations.
