An ordinance was adopted on May 12, 2025 to annex approximately 8.449 acres of unincorporated territory along Sledge Road in Steele Creek Township into the corporate limits of the City of Charlotte. The annexed area is broadly bounded by property lines of Travor and Jenna Ainslie to the west, Clayton Properties Inc. to the northwest, and lots 99 through 121 of the Hartwell subdivision, including common open space. The precise legal boundaries were described by a series of metes and bounds calls beginning at a rebar on the north side of Sledge Road, proceeding along multiple property lines, and returning via a center‐line path through the road corridor. Upon annexation, the territory and its citizens become subject to the city’s debts, ordinances, and taxes under G.S. 160A-58.10. The territory will be placed in City Council District 3 and will receive city services such as water, sewer, police, and fire protection. A certified map and the ordinance are to be recorded with the Mecklenburg County Register of Deeds and the North Carolina Secretary of State. The annexation enables future planning and land use regulations to be applied uniformly with adjacent city parcels. It also provides Charlotte with additional revenue through property taxes. No immediate zoning change was enacted as part of the ordinance; zoning classification will be determined separately. The annexation process followed the procedures set out in G.S. 160A-31(a), including a public hearing and petition sufficiency certification. Public notice was published in the Mecklenburg Times on April 22, 2025.
