Approve a contract of $1,596,858.07 with HUX Contracting, LLC to construct an eight- to 12-foot-wide, approximately 0.65-mile multiuse path along the north side of Monroe Road from Eaton Road to McMullen Way as part of the Independence Area Sidewalk and Bikeway Improvements Program. The project will enhance pedestrian and bicycle connectivity by linking with the Monroe Road Streetscape project and Idlewild/Rama/Monroe Road Intersection Improvements to create a continuous, accessible, and pedestrian-friendly corridor in Council District 5. The city received eight bids following a February 11, 2025 Invitation to Bid and selected HUX Contracting, LLC as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder. The contract includes a commitment exceeding the 7% MBE goal and 3% WBE goal with participation from GDC, Inc. (traffic control), Silverback Brothers, LLC (hauling), and B&N Grading, Inc. (milling and paving). The project is funded through the General Capital Investment Plan and is anticipated to be complete by the third quarter of 2026.
