The Charlotte City Council has approved a $31.7 million contract with Blythe Construction, Inc. for the resurfacing of approximately 224 lane miles across the city. The project includes asphalt and concrete pavement milling, base failure repair, asphalt paving, installation of accessible ramps, sidewalk and curb repairs, and pavement markings. Streets selected for resurfacing are determined based on pavement condition ratings, staff evaluations, and computerized pavement management data. The work is expected to be carried out between April and October 2025, depending on weather and material availability. The contract also meets Charlotte Business Inclusion goals, with 7.10% of the contract allocated to minority-owned businesses and 4.04% to women-owned businesses. The project is funded through the Powell Bill Fund.
This investment ensures the long-term sustainability of Charlotte’s roadways, improving transportation infrastructure, enhancing mobility, and reducing future maintenance costs. It also supports local minority and women-owned businesses, fostering economic inclusivity.
