The Charlotte City Council has approved the voluntary annexation of a 23.545-acre vacant site in southwest Mecklenburg County, located along the west side of Steele Creek Road and the south side of Parkside Crossing Drive. This annexation, petitioned by Parkside Townhomes, LLC, extends municipal services to facilitate the development of 143 multi-family attached dwelling units. The site was rezoned in January 2024 from N1-A to UR-2(CD) through Rezoning Petition 2022-161, allowing for residential development. The annexation is consistent with city policies, ensuring that the city can continue future annexations without financial or service-related burdens. The Charlotte Fire Department has confirmed that the site is within Effective Response Force travel time standards, and city departments have assessed minimal impact on resources. Additionally, the project includes provisions for public amenities and open space to enhance the livability of the community.
This annexation supports Charlotte’s urban expansion strategy by enabling the construction of much-needed multi-family housing. It ensures that essential city services are available to the development while promoting sustainable growth in the Steele Creek corridor.
