The City of Atlanta has been authorized to accept a Brownfield Community Wide Assessment Grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for $500,000.00. This grant will fund community-wide assessments of brownfield sites potentially contaminated with hazardous substances and petroleum products across the city. The program aims to improve quality of life, revitalize neighborhoods, and increase the city's tax base by encouraging sustainable redevelopment. This action follows the City Council's previous authorization in October 2024 to apply for and accept this grant. The EPA notified the City of its selection on May 16, 2025. The Chief Financial Officer is authorized to amend the 2026 Intergovernmental Grant Fund Budget to include these funds.
