The Atlanta City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the Chief Financial Officer to accept a donation of up to $200,000 from the Trust for Public Land (TPL). These funds are earmarked for Atlanta’s section of the proposed Chattahoochee RiverLands and the Chattahoochee Brick study. The Chattahoochee RiverLands is a vision for 100 miles of connected trails, parks, and public spaces along the Chattahoochee River, promoting a safe corridor, common ground, ecological refuge, and a legacy of conservation and education. Approximately 7 miles of this corridor are within the City of Atlanta. The Chattahoochee Brick Company site is identified as a key node, with plans for a memorial park or greenspace. TPL has been instrumental in similar projects, including a $5.3 million Camp + Paddle Trail and a $47 million capital project for trails and parks in Cobb County. Additionally, TPL is collaborating with the cities of Smyrna and Atlanta on a $900,000 feasibility study for a pedestrian bridge across the Chattahoochee River to connect Smyrna to Atlanta near the Chattahoochee Brick site. The resolution passed with a 'FAVORABLE' recommendation from the Community Development/Human Services Committee on July 15, 2025, with a 6-0 vote. The final adoption date for the substitute resolution was August 4, 2025.
