The City of Atlanta Council adopted an ordinance to amend the 1982 Atlanta Zoning Ordinance. This amendment introduces definitions for “Vape Shops” and “Elementary and Secondary Schools” and establishes new regulations. Specifically, it requires a minimum distance of 1,000 feet between vape shops and also mandates a 1,000-foot distance between vape shops and elementary/secondary schools, child care nurseries, day care centers, prekindergartens, kindergartens, play and other special schools or day care facilities for young children. The ordinance amends sections of the City Code governing permitted principal uses and structures in various zoning districts, including C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-5, I-1, I-2, and MRC.
