On May 5, 2025, the Atlanta City Council adopted Ordinance 25-O-1061 annexing certain parcels in the Brighton Village Subdivision from unincorporated DeKalb County into the City of Atlanta and rezoning them to MR-1 (Multi Family Residential). Sponsored by Councilmember Alex Wan, the ordinance aligns city zoning with the existing county classification to facilitate multifamily residential development. It amends the official zoning map to list the parcels in Exhibit A as MR-1 and incorporates the site plan in Exhibit B. All conflicting ordinances are waived to ensure a seamless transition of jurisdiction. The decision follows unanimous favorable recommendations from the Zoning Committee and establishes the zoning framework for future apartment and townhouse construction. By designating these lots MR-1, the City supports its housing goals and enables consistent planning, infrastructure provision, and services in the newly annexed area. This ordinance sets the stage for multifamily projects that address market demand and community needs under Atlanta’s zoning code.
