On May 5, 2025, Atlanta City Council adopted Ordinance 25-O-1060 annexing approximately 9.12 acres of the Brighton Village Subdivision from unincorporated DeKalb County into the City of Atlanta. The annexed area includes parcels along Brighton Boulevard SE, Northumberland Way SE, Northampton Way SE, Shropshire Lane SE, and Somerset Place SE. As required by O.C.G.A. §36-36-1 et seq., the petition demonstrated contiguity to Atlanta’s corporate limits and valid signatures from titleholders representing at least 60% of the land area and resident electors. Upon annexation, the area’s zoning will transition from DeKalb County’s RSM classification to Atlanta’s MR-1 zoning for low-density residential use, and the boundaries of the Atlanta Independent School System will expand effective July 1, 2025. The City Clerk was directed to notify the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and DeKalb County of the annexation in accordance with state law.
