An ordinance to amend the City of Atlanta’s Sign Ordinance to allow security video technology to be integrated with suspended signs at service stations and convenience stores. The purpose is to encourage the installation of surveillance cameras by helping to offset associated costs for businesses. The integrated security video systems must be certified by a Georgia law enforcement agency, offer 24/7 remote monitoring, utilize artificial intelligence, and retain video footage for at least 365 days for investigations. Each suspended sign, which shall be 8 square feet in size, will be LED with no changeable copy, with images changing once per 24 hours, and dimmable luminaries. The ordinance also includes waivers for several sections of the Sign Ordinance related to sign count, size, and type, and permits suspended signs under canopies. The Director of the Office of Buildings is authorized to promulgate rules for installation and operation.
