The City of Atlanta City Council adopted an ordinance to amend Chapter 16-18A SPI-1 Downtown Special Public Interest District Regulations. The amendment permits sales and leasing agencies for new and used cars and motorcycles as a permissible use in Subarea 7, Fairlie-Poplar. This change is specifically limited to such uses being located in multistory buildings with accessory parking in existing parking decks. Additionally, the sales and leasing agency must be located in a building containing a minimum of 10 stories, and any accessory parking for cars and motorcycles shall be located in an existing parking deck with an allowable maximum of 50 parking spaces devoted to the sales and leasing agency use. The purpose is to encourage a compatible mixture of residential, commercial, entertainment, cultural, and recreational uses in the SPI-1 district while maintaining occupied space at the sidewalk level in Downtown. The Zoning Committee recommended approval unanimously, and the City Council adopted it as amended by a unanimous roll call vote of 15 yeas and 0 nays.
