The Economic Development and the Arts Subcommittee is recommending City Council approval for Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) and Northern Arizona University (NAU). These MOUs will provide educational services and technical instruction for employer-developed apprenticeship programs managed by the Phoenix Business and Workforce Development Board. The total value of these contracts will not exceed $650,000 over a three-year term with a two-year renewal option. The initiative aims to create career pathways in high-demand sectors like semiconductor and advanced manufacturing, addressing regional workforce needs. The Community and Economic Development Department (CEDD) will act as the program sponsor and fiscal intermediary. The first programs, developed with partners including TSMC Arizona Corporation, launched in early 2024 for roles such as Industrial Maintenance Technician, Manufacturing Technician, and Nanotechnology Technician. Funding is sourced from employer agreements and other grants, with no impact on the City's General Fund.
