The Nashville Metropolitan Council passed ordinance BL2025-956, amending Chapter 12.40 of the Metro Code to restrict parking for large vehicles in the public right-of-way. The new rules prohibit the parking, stopping, or standing of any commercial, oversized, or heavy-duty vehicle (USDOT Class 4 or higher) on any public street unless permitted by the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT). This includes box trucks, semi-trailers, food trucks, and dump trucks. Key provisions include a complete ban on overnight parking. Temporary stops for active service are allowed during daylight hours for up to 30 minutes, provided a minimum 12-foot travel lane remains clear. Both NDOT and the Metro Nashville Police Department are authorized to enforce the new regulations, with penalties including fines and towing. The ordinance replaces sections 12.40.180 and 12.40.190 of the existing code.
