The Nashville Metropolitan Council approved a grant application to the U.S. Conference of Mayors for $275,000 to continue its residential Food Scrap Pickup Program (FSPP). This funding will extend the pilot program, which provides curbside composting services to 750 households, for another year. Launched in October 2023, the FSPP aims to divert a significant portion of the 33% of residential waste that is food and yard waste from landfills. The program is a key part of Nashville's broader goal to divert 90% of all waste from landfills. The grant requires no cash match from the city and will allow the Department of Waste Services to continue gathering data to justify a city-wide expansion of the service.
