The Metropolitan Council approved a $2.5 million amendment to a sole source agreement with Vanderbilt University, increasing the total contract value to $2,850,000. This amendment funds the second phase of the Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The project involves using LiDAR and video camera technology to collect “near-miss” data at key intersections and mid-block segments in downtown and North Nashville. This specific amendment facilitates the deployment of LiDAR technology and includes related tasks such as preliminary design, equipment testing, IT integration, system evaluation, data management, mobility and safety data analytics, and workforce development. The goal is to improve safety for all modes of transportation, with a specific focus on pedestrians and bicyclists.
