The Jacksonville Planning Commission has recommended the approval of a rezoning application for a 4.00-acre property at 8059 Merrill Road. The applicant, Memorial Healthcare Group, Inc., requested to rezone the property from Commercial Residential Office (CRO) to Commercial Neighborhood (CN). The primary motivation for the change is to allow for larger and more visible signage for a medical clinic, which is restricted under the current CRO zoning. Both CRO and CN districts permit medical clinics, but CRO imposes stricter limitations on monument and wall signs. The Planning Department staff recommended approval, finding the request consistent with the 2045 Comprehensive Plan's Residential Professional Institutional (RPI) land use category. The Renew Arlington Advisory Board also unanimously voted to approve the rezoning on October 8, 2025. The Planning Commission approved the item with a 6-0 vote.
