The Chicago City Council approved an ordinance to expand the boundaries and extend the term of the Lakeview Special Service Area (SSA #27). The ordinance authorizes the levy of a special service tax at a rate not to exceed 0.25% of the equalized assessed value of the properties within the new boundaries. The tax levy is extended for a 15-year period, from tax year 2025 through 2039. The funds generated will be used for services such as customer attraction, public way aesthetics, economic development, and public safety programs, which are in addition to the services already provided by the City. A public hearing on the matter was held on October 14, 2025, prior to the final council vote.
