The Charlotte City Council adopted the Charlotte Future 2040 Community Area Plans, a set of 14 distinct plans that provide detailed, area-specific policy guidance to implement the city's 2040 Comprehensive Plan. Concurrently, the council approved a Revised Future 2040 Policy Map, which was updated based on the new community plans and extensive public feedback. These plans are the culmination of a multi-year process that began in early 2023, involving robust community engagement that reached over 490,000 people and generated more than 2,500 comments. The adopted plans offer specific recommendations for land use, transportation, infrastructure, and open space for every part of the city. Key changes based on community feedback include specific parcel-level Place Type changes, new environmental justice protections for neighborhoods adjacent to industrial zones, and new policies to mitigate residential and business displacement.
